Kitzingen Children's Academy
The town and district of Kitzingen have long organized a series of lectures for children, the Kitzingen Children's Academy. Today, together with my colleague Sarah Hofmann, I had the honor of giving a talk about computer and video games to around 60 inquisitive children in the Old Synagogue; together with the children, we quickly moved from research and teaching at universities to the interaction between humans and computers to the ingredients of good games and finally the possibility of using them to gain knowledge. Sarah rounded off the talk with a live coding demo - many thanks to Sarah and the team at the Kinderakademie Kitzingen!

Interdisciplinary Course with Design Students
For the Winter Term 20/21, Prof. von Mammen offers a course together with his colleague Prof. Rogge-Pott of the Design Faculty of the FHWS. There will only be 8 seats available for students from either university. The course will start October 15. Seats will be given out first-come-first-served, preference will be given to students of higher semesters.

Next step ahead in VR First-Aid!
Efforts by the Games Engineering group towards First Aid Training in VR are taking the next step. After several academic prototypes, Sarah Hofmann will be joining the group in part-time capacity at the end of the year to create a first commercially viable prototype. This is possible by means of the generous support by the Universitätsbund Würzburg e.V. and the IHK Mainfranken.

VSGAMES 2019: 1st Call For Paper
The community of the VS-GAMES covers a broad variety of facets of virtual worlds and games including game design, software engineering, computer graphics, human-computer interaction techniques, pedagogical and psychological models and evaluations. The common denominator of the conference is that all of these different efforts and perspectives target serious application domains – from museum exhibitions over deep sea robotics interfaces to training and rehabilitation.

HCI group wins contest to establish a new 'EmbodimentLab' in the Bavarian initiative 'Innovationslabore für Studierende' in the Bavarian initiative 'Zentrum Digitalisierung Bayern (ZD.B)'. The new lab will strengthen the Würzburgs research around 'Humans and Intelligent Machines'. The lab is initially founded for two years with with 223.000 €.
